Children’s Personal Information Protection Rules

Updated and effective: 4 November 2026

These rules concern personal information of children under 14 and supplement the Privacy Policy. Public browsing and resource searches do not require a child’s name, class, identity documents or a guardian’s contact details. Public membership registration is not available.

1. Guidance for children and guardians

Children should use the website with guardian guidance and should not independently send real names, home addresses, contact details, photographs, identity documents or registration materials. A guardian can initially explain the matter and the child’s approximate age range without sending a complete personal record. Contact unescochair.aied@bnu.edu.cn.

2. Specific activity notices and consent

If an educational activity needs children’s information, its responsible organiser should first establish necessity and clearly explain the handler, necessary fields, purposes, methods, recipients, retention and rights channels to the guardian. It must obtain recordable guardian consent and any other authorisation required by law. A general website notice should not replace this process, and independent ordinary submissions should not replace guardian involvement.

3. Necessity and public display

Collection and use should be limited to what is necessary for the specific educational matter, without unrelated marketing. Public display of names, images or attribution of work requires separate review of permission and necessity, with consideration of pseudonyms or de-identification. Information that is no longer necessary should be deleted or anonymised as required by law; the relevant activity notice explains its retention arrangements.

4. Guardian requests and concerns

Guardians may email unescochair.aied@bnu.edu.cn to request access, a copy, correction, completion or deletion of children’s information, withdraw consent or raise another protection request. Identity and guardianship are verified only as necessary, and requests are handled with appropriate feedback under applicable law. If information appears to have been collected or published without appropriate consent, send the page link for review instead of publicly forwarding sensitive material.

5. Security and related rules

Access to children’s information should be limited by role, permission and purpose, preventing unauthorised export, disclosure or transfer. Incidents require the response, notification and reporting prescribed by law. Other young people under 18 also require appropriate protection. See the Privacy Policy for other matters.
