The first Smart Futures Youth Forum took place in Beijing on 23 October 2026. It was organised by Beijing Normal University (BNU) and the Global Smart Education Network (GSENet), and hosted by BNU’s Smart Learning Institute. This account draws on the Guangming Daily report reproduced by the Institute on 28 October.
Initiated jointly by youth representatives from Africa, the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America, and Latin America and the Caribbean, the forum brought together young speakers from 13 countries and regions. Under the theme “We the Future: Imagine · Innovate · Impact”, it emphasised that AI is a young endeavour and an endeavour for young people. It offered a platform for their experience, creativity and aspirations to shape education in the AI age, supported by intergenerational dialogue and mentoring.

An opening dialogue spanning four generations was a central feature. Experts and young participants asked one another questions about youth agency, AI literacy and the support needed to turn ideas into action. The mentoring spirit of sharing knowledge, offering guidance and supporting the next generation also encouraged mutual learning, connecting senior scholars’ experience with young people’s perspectives and creativity.
Three connected themes guided discussion. “Imagine” explored young people’s expectations for the AI age and education beyond 2030. “Innovate” examined youth-led approaches to inclusive and equitable learning. “Impact” considered the capabilities, partnerships and practical opportunities needed to translate ideas into responsible action. Together, they highlighted independent judgement, creativity and meaningful youth participation as AI reshapes learning and society.
Through the forum, BNU and GSENet aim to connect young people’s aspirations with research and practice, strengthen cooperation across regions and generations, and bring youth perspectives into wider discussions about the global education agenda beyond 2030.
