The Chair Participated in the China-Aid-Cambodia Project for Grade 10 ‘Information Technology’ Textbook Teacher Training

On October 17th, 2023, with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of Cambodia, Hunan Science and Technology Publishing House and the Information Technology Department of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of Cambodia jointly launched the teacher training program for Grade 10 “Information Technology” textbook at Lycée Léquèsne High School in the outskirts of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. The launching ceremony was attended by the Ms. Kim Sessani, the Secretary of State for Education, Youth, and Sports of Cambodia, Mr. SONG Ta, the Director of the Information Technology Department, Mr. WANG Peng, the First Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, and Mr. PAN Xiaoshan, the
President of Hunan Science and Technology Press, Prof. HUANG Ronghuai, the UNESCO Chair on AI in Education, who served as the chief editor of the textbook, was invited to attend the launching ceremony and deliver an academic presentation.

In her speech, Ms. Kim Sessani expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continuous support and assistance to the education sector in Cambodia. She affirmed that the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of Cambodia would fully support the training program and believed that it would effectively enhance the capabilities of Cambodian teachers in information technology and educational digitization. She emphasized that this training would contribute to the realization of Cambodia’s long-term goals for 2030-2050.

Mr. Wang Peng emphsized that cultural exchange is an important component of building a shared future between China and Cambodia, as well as a crucial area in the cooperation framework of the “Diamond Hexagon” between the two countries. This project marks the first Chinese educational aid program under the cooperation between the Chinese and Cambodian governments. It aligns closely with Cambodia’s newly announced “Pentagon Strategy” and is expected to provide significant support to the development of basic education and information technology in Cambodia.

Mr. Pan Xiaoshan stated that the Grade 10 “Information Technology” textbook for Cambodia is a collaborative effort between experts from China and Cambodia. It takes into full consideration China’s educational experience and Cambodia’s educational reality. The textbook aims to help Cambodian students grasp basic knowledge of information technology, cultivate their information technology literacy, and enhance their ability to apply information technology. It is believed that through this aid project, there will be a profound impact on information technology education in Cambodia,
contributing to the improvement of education standards, the cultivation of outstanding talents, and making substantial contributions to Cambodia’s development.

Prof. HUANG Ronghuai delivered an academic presentation titled “Digital Transformation and Digital Literacy in the Era
of Artificial Intelligence in Education.” Against the backdrop of the global trend of educational digital transformation, he
introduced the development of artificial intelligence in the field of education and the current state of global smart education. He also shared information about information technology and information science education in China’s basic education sector, as well as China’s experience in artificial intelligence education and digital transformation in basic education. Professor Huang encouraged the Cambodian information technology teachers attending the training to pay close attention to the impact of new generation information technologies, such as artificial intelligence, on education. He emphasized the importance of implementing the “Information Technology” curriculum and engaging in activities that would enhance Cambodia’s level of educational digitization.
